Pakane Kekana
Co-Founder | Head of Research & Administration
Pakane, 23, is the backbone of SAFE’s organisational engine. She was present at the founding of the organisation, led its formal registration, and continues to oversee compliance, documentation, and governance — while also rolling up her sleeves on the farm when needed.
In 2026, she was recognised as a top 15 national finalist at the CIPC Youth Awards, placing second in the Women Shaping IP category. An acknowledgement that her work extends well beyond Zebediela.
“Leadership isn’t about waiting for the right conditions. It’s about creating them.”
Malusi Kekana
Co-Founder | Operations Lead
Malusi runs the engine room. From planting schedules to harvest logistics, market distribution to resource allocation — if it needs to work, Malusi makes sure it does. Under his operational leadership, SAFE achieved its successful 2025 maize harvest and is now driving the initiative’s expansion into urban retail markets in Johannesburg.
He’s currently spearheading SAFE’s push into Fourways Market, Rosebank Sunday Market, and wholesale conversations with major retailers — because a community farm that can supply a Shoprite is a farm that’s built to last.
“Good farming requires the same skills as good management — discipline, patience, and a willingness to adapt.”
Kuhlekonke Makanya
Co-Founder | Project Manager
Kuhlekonke keeps SAFE’s programmes on track, on time, and on mission. As Project Manager, she coordinates the moving parts of the organisation’s community initiatives — from school workshops to farm programmes — ensuring that every project is executed with precision and purpose.
Mbali Makanya
Marketing & Creative Director
Mbali is SAFE’s storyteller. A full-stack marketer skilled in content creation, social media management, campaign planning, and email marketing, she shapes how SAFE is perceived — and ensures the organisation’s story is told in a way that attracts the supporters, partners, and community members it needs to grow.
You’ll often find her in the field — camera in hand — documenting harvests, workshops, and the quiet moments that make SAFE what it is. She’s also the reason SAFE looks as good as it works.
Gomolemo Monametsi
Administrative Assistant
Gomolemo holds a BA in Psychology and Communications and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education — a background that shows in the clarity, care, and organisation she brings to everything she touches. She manages SAFE’s documentation, financial records, and internal communications, ensuring that the organisation’s operations run smoothly behind the scenes.
Detail-oriented. Dependable. The kind of person every growing organisation needs.
Peter Molepo
Workshop Facilitator | Farm Worker
Peter is SAFE’s bridge between the farm and the classroom. As Workshop Facilitator, he delivers hands-on agricultural training to school learners and community members — translating technical farming knowledge into practical, accessible lessons. He was the facilitator behind the April 2026 Dithlakaneng Primary School session and is a key figure in SAFE’s educational outreach.
On the farm, he does the work. In the workshop, he teaches it.
